You can save documents on your computer by printing them to PDF if you don’t have access to a printer. Of course, you’re aware that the process isn’t always seamless if you have Windows. However, since Windows 10 includes printing to PDF as a default feature, you can print pdf easily.
Let’s look at how you can print to PDF from Windows in this article. In addition, we have guides on how to password-protect a PDF, convert a PDF to Excel, convert a PDF to Word, and combine PDF files.
Using native tools in Windows 10: Microsoft Print to PDF
Select the Microsoft Print to PDF printer when you print your document, as you usually do.
The file will be present where you specify. Just specify the location and name of the file, and click Save. Your new PDF will be ready in a few seconds.
You don’t have to worry about setting it up if it isn’t listed as an option for whatever reason.
Setting up Microsoft Print
From the Start Menu or the search bar, navigate to the Settings page in Windows 10. Then, on the Devices page, click the Start button.
From the left menu, click Printers & Scanners. Microsoft Print to PDF should be listed here with your other potential printing options if you have them. To add a printer or scanner, select Add a Printer or Scanner if you don’t see it.
When Windows attempts to locate that printer, it won’t work (although it may identify other local printers). Instead, please select the option titled The Printer That I Want Isn’t Listed when the process is complete. This process will open a second window that provides printer search options. You should see Add a below the Add a Local Printer or Network Printer With Manual Settings option. Click Next to continue.
Next, select FILE: (Print to File) from the drop-down menu beside Use an Existing Port.
The following window will appear, in which you should select Microsoft Print to PDF as the manufacturer before pressing Next again.
If you want to choose between replacing the existing driver or using the one already installed, we recommend simply selecting Next.
Click Next one last time to install the desired printer after Windows 10 prompts you to name the print-to-PDF feature – we recommend using the default so it will be easier to find.
To use this feature, open the document or webpage you wish to convert to PDF and select the Print option. To restore the file to PDF, choose Microsoft Print to PDF from the list of printer destinations, and then click Print.
You will be asked immediately to choose a location to save the PDF document and give the file a name if done correctly. To create your PDF, decide where you like it to store on your hard drive, name it, and hit Save. Using one of these PDF editors, you can make any necessary changes to your document once saved.
