College 2.0 is an interactive video project for mtvU based on college life created by Richard Blakeley. Many of the events have been culled from his most embarrassing college experiences.

Inspired by the “Choose Your Own Adventure” book series, the idea began to come to life on a winter morning in 2005 while Richard was on a trip with his then girlfriend to Central Park.

In the first adventure Don’t Make Her Cry, you play the boyfriend of a easily depressed girl and the goal is to survive the entire day without making her cry. At the end of the game you are presented with a small piece of code that the viewer may then post on their blog, website or MySpace profile so that others can see their results and play the game themselves.

Don’t Make Her Cry quickly went from Richard’s small group of friends to around the world in a matter of weeks. Around this same time, Richard first learned of mtvU’s Digital Incubator Contest, a grant competition for college students sponsored by mtvU and Cisco Systems awarding up to $25,000 to the most innovative broadband video concepts. Richard’s concept fit right into the guidelines of the competition, so he entered it.

Several months passed and he had forgotten about the contest and moved on to several other new and exciting projects. But on March 9th, 2006 he was ambushed by an mtvU video production crew in his senior film class at Pratt Institute announcing that he had won a grant for $15,000 to further develop his interactive video project.

The announcement was completely unexpected and it began the long process of coming up with unique yet still common college experiences. The first of four games College 2.0 : College Dating Challenge, launches November 11th, 2006.

Richard and his crew have previously worked on such classics as Remember These Faces, Bust A Move, and Dick & Jules, The Legend Of Jules Spizterelli.
