Train Man (L’Homme du Train, GB-France-Germany-Switzerland-Japan, 2002), the latest film by veteran filmmaker Patrice Leconte Frenchman, was never distributed commercially in Mexico. The film number 20 in the consistent Leconte’s films is, as some of his previous films ( The Specialists / 1985 Monsieur Hire / 1989, The Hairdresser’s Husband / 1990 Tango: The Maté because I wanted / 1993), a work focused on male characters: their dreams, obsessions and failures. Although there are other important characters (the plant lover and sister Manesquier, dark fellow Milan), the center of the film is the interaction between the two characters who at some point, want to exchange positions. Milan is tested slippers, smoking a pipe and even gives a hilarious lesson on Eugenia Grandet to a bewildered young man.
